Replacing over the counter first aid products are easy using these recipes.

Make Your Own Sore Throat Spray

1/4 oz. Vodka
1 3/4 oz. Purified Water
10 drops Thieves Essential Oil Blend
5 drops Therapeutic Grade Peppermint or Lemon essential oil
2 drops Stevia

Blend together and store in a 2 oz. dark glass spray bottle. Spray 1-2 squirts on the back of throat for soothing relief.

Stacy’s Boo Boo Spray

2 oz. Aloe Vera Juice (or purified water)
10 drops therapeutic grade lavender
10 drops therapeutic grade geranium
1 drop therapeutic grade frankincense (optional)

Shake together well and store in a dark glass spray bottle.

To make a Burn Spray, omit the geranium and frankincense, and instead use 20 drops of lavender.

Mom’s Homemade Toothpaste

3-4 T. vegetable glycerin (food grade) or coconut oil
6T. Baking Soda (aluminum free)
2 tsp. Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild Liquid Castile Soap (unscented)
4 drops stevia or 1 tsp. xylitol (xylitol is supposed to prevent tooth decay!)
20 drops therapeutic grade peppermint essential oil
1-2 drops therapeutic grade Thieves essential oil blend

If using Xylitol as the sweetener, I mix it with the Castile soap first, so that it has a chance to dissolve. I don’t like my toothpaste to turn out grainy. However, it may be that it would dissolve anyway, I just haven’t taken the chance. Then I mix all the ingredients together with a whisk.

Pour it into a glass jar. Any glass jar will work, even a plain old mason jar; but, a decorative one will make you feel good. :-)

Homemade All Natural Deodorant

Makes enough for one average-sized deodorant roll-up container.

1 heaping T. beeswax pellets
2 1/2 T. coconut oil
1/8 C. arrowroot powder
1/8 C. baking soda
2 drops castor oil
2 drops vitamin E
24 drops of therapeutic grade essential oil of your choice (recommendations below)

The selections are endless. You could choose just single oils (lavender, lemon, melaleuca, sandalwood, frankincense, cinnamon bark, etc.) or Young Living has a number of blends that are perfect for a good deodorant (Thieves, Purification, Citrus Fresh, Three Wise Men, Joy, Harmony, Christmas Spirit, Sensation etc.).

If you want to get creative, you could try to blend a few complementary oils together yourself. Here are a few examples:

English Garden:

19 drops lavender
4 drops ylang ylang drops
1 geranium

Morning Breeze

15 drops Rosemary
5 drops peppermint
4 drops lavender

Only use Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils, since lower quality oils may be toxic. Recipes taken from The Common Scents Mom blog with permission.
